This service is for riders who would like to have the fit and condition of their current saddle checked, or their horse evaluated for a new saddle. A standard initial appointment takes 60 minutes, we have allotted time for an additional 30 minutes in the event that you would like to try saddles from our inventory.

This initial appointment evaluates the following:


  • twisted or broken tree
  • condition of billets
  • tree size relative to your horse
  • saddle seat and flap relative to you
  • if minor fit corrections can be made or not
  • on-site trial of Stubben or Thorowgood saddles with recommendations of what to purchase if a change of the saddle is necessary
  • map the specific saddle relevant anatomy of your horse and palpate your horse for soreness under the saddle support area
  • bridle and bit adjustment and size


To prepare for your appointment please consider the following:


  • Appointments should be made outside of lesson times
  • Please do not ride your horse immidiately prior to your appointment. If you have an afternoon appointment and the horse was ridden that morning, that is OK.
  • Have your horse ready! This means clean, brushed, and dry (if they were recently bathed), untacked, and in cross-ties, a grooming stall, or wherever you normally get tacked up so we can get started right when I arrive.
  • Have all of your equipment out (saddle, saddle pad, half pad, girth, bridle etc) and within easy reach to tack up your horse once we finish the initial portion.
  • Be dressed to ride! Please have your boots on and helmet on hand so we can get right into the ridden portion of the evaluation once we finish anatomy, photos and initial observations.
